At 40 years old our Founder Donna Durham went back to school to get her Marriage and Family Therapy Degree in Nashville, TN. While she was there she witnessed how her clients with Anxiety would feel calm using her Weighted Blankets.
She pitched the idea of selling Weighted Blankets to her son and now Co-Founder Josh and he was immediately hooked.
After thorough research on the Weighted Blanket industry, he discovered how difficult it was to choose a blanket. The customer had to choose from Hundreds of different fabrics and 15 different weight variants and wait 2 -3 weeks.
This was way too confusing for the consumer so Josh and Donna decided to keep it simple: Offer: 10 beautiful fabrics, and narrow it down to three weights to simplify the purchasing process.
As Weighting Comforts began to grow, Donna was overwhelmed with the amount of orders and could no longer sew the blankets on her own.
That’s when Weighting Comforts partnered with Sew for Hope, a non profit dedicated to teaching Refugees how to sew, so they can learn a new skill to provide income for their families.
Soon Donna and Josh started helping the Refugee community break the cycle of poverty by providing a sustainable source of income and paid english classes during work hours.
An issue arises when a refugee comes to the U.S.--finding work can be nearly impossible because of the language barrier.
Every product you purchase from Weighting Comforts supports job creation for refugees who may not have work otherwise.
To date, Weighting Comforts has provided 32+ job opportunities for the refugee community.
Your purchase has helped these individuals end cycles of poverty. To date purchases have also helped these individuals purchase homes in safer communities, get off food stamps, and most importantly providing for their children.
We also provide paid English Classes, so that our employees can integrate culturally and in hopes that they will transition to better jobs in the future.
A general rule when purchasing a weighted blanket is taking your weight and multiplying it by .10, or taking 10% of your body weight. Using that number, follow the chart below to guide you in finding the perfect blanket!
|Quilted Cotton||10 lb|
|Quilted Cotton||15 lb|
|Quilted Cotton||20 lb|
|Quilted Cotton||N / A|
|Flannel||N / A|
Fall in between two different weight limits for two blankets? We suggest going with the smaller of the two blanket weights.
Still not sure which size to buy? Most of our customers buy one of the 15-pound blankets.
